La Alhambra, Jewel of the Spanish Past   by Timothy Tye

Alhambra, Granada

Granada and Beyond   by Edward Kirwan
Granada, in the east of Andalusía, is a city steeped in Moorish tradition. The Alhambra Palace which was recently short listed as a Seventh Wonder of the new world, is truly wondrous but there is so much more to see and do..

El Chorro is a limestone gorge in Andalucia in southern Spain, through which passes the Guadalhorce river. It was dammed in 1921, forming three reservoirs which are flanked by pine forests with beautiful picnic areas, swimming and boating.

The area is most famous as being one of the best rock climbing areas in Europe, but is also very popular for mountain biking, hiking, and camping.  It's sitting next to the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, a narrow pass having 700m height in some points with a very dangerous path called Caminito del Rey (King's little path). The path took its name because the official opening was taken by Alfonso XIII of Spain. This path was closed in 2000 after one tourist died trying to cross it. It has since been renovated and reopened.
