Filming locations in the USA.
- Washington, DC
Wonder Woman 1984 is set in the 1980s, when the fate of the world is once again threatened by evil. The only one who can save the world is Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). With her superhero powers, she will leap to the rescue to foil the dastardly plans of failing businessman and TV personality, Max Lord.
Lord has stolen an ancient artifact from the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, where Diana works as a cultural anthropologist.
The villain uses the artifact’s magic powers to grant any wish that will further his aim of becoming super-powerful and successful. He also grants dangerous wishes to those who are useful to him.
The Warner Bros. Pictures movie is directed by Patty Jenkins and also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord and Kristen Wiig as Barbara/Cheetah.
The movie starts by revealing Diana’s apartment, with its views over the famous Watergate Hotel. As the action is based at the Smithsonian, this means we are treated to views of Washington, DC’s most recognizable landmarks. These include the National Air and Space Museum, the White House, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. In the latter, try to catch a glimpse of Roy Lichtenstein’s Brushstroke sculpture. Scenes are also captured in the National Mall (above) and later in the movie, the crazy action happens in Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Alexandria, Virginia, USA
In other American locations, the film has a fantastic action scene in a mall. This was filmed at the Landmark Mall in Alexandria, Virginia. The mall has been closed for business for a number of years, but was transformed into a typical mall of the 1980s.

While the film is partly set in Cairo, production crews captured many of the scenes in southern Spain. One of these is the iconic Alcazaba fortified complex in Malaga on the Costa del Sol. This is one of the most powerful Moorish fortresses in Spain. Other scenes were shot at the Wall of Hayran in Almeria.
