Spain is the ideal location for keen golfers to practice their skills and the country offers some of the best golf courses in the world, along with great weather, good food and great accommodation.

For anyone planning a golf holiday this summer, Golf Escapes offers many of the best options worldwide. However, in this article we will concentrate on destinations on both the Spanish mainland and the various lovely offshore islands.
The Costa del Sol is probably one of the best spots to head to. In fact, the coast has also been dubbed the Costa del Golf and for good reason. The area is perfect for golfers travelling alone, but is also ideal for the whole family.

The golfing member of the family can head to the greens, while the rest of the family can recline on the gorgeous sandy beaches all the way down the coastline or explore the various seaside resorts along the way. Many areas offer mini-golf, which are perfect to keep the kids out of your hair.

There are more than 90 courses to choose from along the coastline and many are situated in golf resorts, giving the option of both the best accommodation close to the beach, as well as the opportunity to tee off.

Golf in San Roque, Cadiz If visiting Catalonia and Barcelona, the area offers several great courses close to the city and the fact that Barcelona’s summer heat is a little less oppressive than the southern regions makes for a more comfortable game.  The fact that there is more rain in this region also helps in keeping those greens really, well, green.

If looking for an island holiday, the Balearic Islands have around 27 golf courses, perfect for a golfing holiday, all with great accommodation close by. Whether heading for stunning Mallorca or the party island of Ibiza, the options are endless.

Altogether the Balearic Islands offer a playing length of 93 miles, with a total of 441 holes, split up across 22 x 18-hole golf courses and five 9-hole courses.

The Canary Islands are another great option. Located off the west coast of Africa, the Canaries offer a wonderfully warm climate virtually all year around.

While all the islands have plenty to offer, the best golf course layouts are to be found on the stunning volcanic island of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

If looking for a smaller and quieter island there is, however, Martin Ebert’s stunning golf course in Tecina on La Gomera.

For those looking for greener and more lush climes, Northern Spain is also a great destination for a golf holiday with courses to be found close to some of the beautiful cities of the region, including Bilbao, Gijon, Pamplona, Santander and Zaragoza.

There are, however, more than 100 excellent golf clubs situated in the rather more arid central region of Spain. Some of the more distinguished clubs near the capital of Madrid even offer 36-hole golf courses. For those who have had their fill of the busy coastal cities, central Spain is a great option and there are many historic and beautiful cities and towns to visit in the area while there.

Whichever area is chosen, Spain remains one of the best golfing locations in the world. Whether you are an ace player or a beginner, you will be spoiled for choice this year.
