Best Places To See In Bath

Bath, UK

The city of Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestling on the River Avon with many beautiful sights, historic landmarks and museums to explore. Moreover, Bath was first discovered by the Romans who built around the thermal spas in the location in a town known as Aquae Sulis.

Nowadays, the city still boasts its impressive Roman Baths, as well as beautiful Georgian architecture and other attractions. Let’s have a look at luxury ways to explore Bath and take advantage of all its must-see sights.

Experience the Roman Baths

Roman Bath

Founded by the Romans as a thermal spa, Bath was developed into an elegant town with neoclassical Palladian buildings, built to blend harmoniously with the Roman Baths. Located in the city centre, the thermal baths continue to offer hot water for a luxurious soak. Meanwhile, visitors can learn more about the Roman Baths with audio guides in 12 languages. For extra effect and information, costumed characters roam the site, sharing stories about life in Roman Britain.

Stroll the Pulteney Bridge

Pulteney Bridge, Bath

The Pulteney Bridge was built in the Palladian style in the late 1700s, to connect central Bath to the land of the Pulteney family across the River Avon. These days, it is one of few bridges around the world with shops built across its full span on both sides. This makes the bridge perfect for a stroll in the fresh air and some unusual retail therapy. Moreover, photographers can enjoy spectacular views of the bridge from the Parade Garden.

The Royal Crescent and The Circus, Bath

The beautiful Royal Crescent overlooks the Royal Victoria Park in Bath, another fine example of Georgian architecture. Here are more than 30 terraced houses, as well as a luxury five-star hotel. Meanwhile, inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, the Circus is a historic ring of three terraces of beautiful Georgian townhouses.

The buildings are located alongside the Royal Crescent and were designed by architect John Wood, the Elder. The Circus was built between 1754 and 1769. Meanwhile, the site is regarded as a pre-eminent example of Georgian architecture. To capture a panoramic view of the townhouses, stand on the central lawn to admire the spectacular façade.

Admire Bath Abbey

Bath Abbey

The Bath Abbey features stunning architecture and beautiful stained glass windows and is well worth a visit. The site has seen three churches since 757 AD and the latest iteration was in the mid-late 1800s.

There is much to see in Bath Abbey, including 635 memorials on its walls, dedicated to people from the 1700s and 1800s. Visitors can learn more about their lives and their belief in resurrection (life after death). Opening times vary and visitors can enjoy the addition of a tower tour, or even attend a service. The abbey makes a peaceful break from exploring the busy city.

Walking around the city

In pleasant weather, the city itself and the surrounding countryside are perfect to explore on foot. The area offers several walking routes, offering spectacular views over the city and beyond. Meanwhile, many tours of Bath are available to give more information about the city’s fascinating history. .
